APBT Specialty at UKC Premier

UAPBTO will be hosting its first ever American Pit Bull Terrier Specialty at the 2019 United Kennel Club Premier Dog Show! We are very excited to bring this specialty to our members and all fanciers of the APBT. This will be a chance to showcase and compete against the best that our breed has to offer while also experiencing UKC’s top show of the year, Premier.

We welcome all who wish to participate and have United Kennel Club registered American Pit Bull Terriers. See you there!

Honorable Judge Sue Phillips to Judge first ever UAPBTO Nationals!

We are happy to announce that our members have selected Honorable Judge Sue Phillips to judge our very first National Specialty!

Sue Phillips is a well respected owner, exhibitor, and breeder of American Pit Bull Terriers as well as a Conformation Judge with the United Kennel Club. She has been exhibiting & occasionally breeding American Pit Bull Terriers for over 20 years. She also enjoys participating in Rally Obedience and Weight Pull with her dogs.

Some of her accomplishments in the ring include showing the first and second ever Reserve Best In Show APBT’s in UKC Premier History, Zima & Lazer, and taking somewhat of a ring Triple Crown in 2015 with Cleo when she won National Best Of Breed and National Grand Champion, #1 UKC Top Ten APBT, and Overall Top Ten at Premier as well as Overall Total Dog at Premier.

We are very excited for our very first Nationals as I’m sure all of you are as well. We can’t wait to see you all there bringing together the best that the American Pit Bull Terrier has to offer!

Save The Date! UAPBTO to host its first two shows in 2019!

UAPBTO will be hosting our first show, an APBT Specialty at UKC Premier 2019! Due to our club being approved mid – December, we were under the gun in getting our event application and judge assignment in before the deadline of Jan 1. UKC was very forgiving in giving us a couple more days to get everything in because of the late approval. UAPBTO and UKC are very excited that we will be at Premier!!!

November 2, 2019 we will be hosting our first Nationals Show! It will be a fun filled weekend event starting Friday Nov 1st. The event will be hosted at Yolo County Fairgrounds in Northern California with Cali Style APBT Club and Silver State APBT Club co-hosting with UAPBTO. This event will include the UAPBTO National, 4 Multi-Breed Shows, and 3 Weight Pull Events with Total Dog Award offered all 3 days!

We certainly understand the difficulty it has become to travel with our dogs due to recent increases in airline restrictions and we empathize with anyone who cannot make it due to these circumstances. Unfortunately, that is something that we simply cannot get around for the time being. However, there will be lots of opportunities to be part of this event even if you cannot attend, such as sponsoring an award for the show. Furthermore, we will be alternating locations of Nationals every year to ensure that everyone has an opportunity to attend at one time or another regardless of where in the U.S. you live. For the health of UAPBTO, we will need to target areas that will bring the greatest number of APBT’s out to the show.

We hope that you are as excited as we are, and we hope to see many of you there. Stay tuned for more details to come!

Disclosure: UAPBTO is a UKC Provisional National Breed Association for the APBT. During the provisional period, there will be no NBOB titles awarded by UKC until the club is fully chartered. This is the case for all Provisional National Breed Associations.

Annual California Classic Event: From Spot to Weight Pull, to Conformation and more, it’s fun for all!

On January 11-13, 2019, Cali Style APBT Club, a member club of the United Pit Bull Terrier Organization, had the privilege and the honor to co-host with the United Kennel Club, their 2nd Annual California Classic!

This years events were held at the Yolo County Fairgrounds, in Woodland, CA; where as many as 19 APBT’s showed in conformation (as well as many other breeds), in a total of (6) shows for the weekend! Many of these dogs also had a great time competing in weight pull & drag racing as well.

There were many new titles earned throughout the weekend. Also, SPOT designations were earned by some outstanding dogs & their handlers. (Thank you to Rosalie Ball, for donating your time to provide the show with an awesome SPOT evaluator) With the help of members of our unofficial “sister” club, Silver State APBT Club, our own Cali Style membership, many true friends loyal to assisting our club, the hard working UKC staff, and all the judges; California Classic 2019 was a success!

Thank you to all that helped to make this event possible! We love seeing all those active APBT’s! Looking forward to California Classic 2020, stay tuned.

BSL Awareness Demonstration a Success!

On January 8, 2019, UAPBTO and Cali Style APBT Club members (Sherri Flosi, Deb Gonzales, Mike McCauley, Rosalie Ball, Kim Pearson) joined efforts with Chako Pit Bull Rescue to provide an education rally at the California State Capitol to educate our legislatures on the characteristics of the pit bull and that we will not allow BSL in our state. California’s new governor is a supporter of PETA and has tried implementation of BSL in San Francisco when he was mayor there.

It was a rainy day but we had a break in rain for the time we had our permit to demonstrate. We brought our dogs so they could meet and greet and were very well received as you can see from the pictures. There were many legislatures and/or staff that were already pit bull owners or used to have one. No negative feedback was received. As a group, we all agreed it is better to be proactive than reactive and will do this again soon.

Pit Bull and Breed Discrimination Awareness Demonstration

Some UAPBTO members will be in action at this rally protest against BSL. I invite all California members to join us. I will have banners, signs and BSL materials available at this rally. Please share.

Come with or without a dog. All breeds are welcome, but discriminated breeds like Pit Bulls, Rottweilers, and German Shepherds are encouraged. If you bring a dog it MUST be on a leash (secure equipment that the dog cannot slip out of) and the dog MUST exhibit good behavior around other dogs, people, and squirrels (there are lots). This is crucial as there’s nothing more detrimental to such an event that a dog barking or growling at people or other dogs.

Dressing in layers is recommended. Signs against BSL are encouraged. To volunteer, contact dogs@chako.org.

United Kennel Club names the UAPBTO the Provisional National Breed Association for the American Pit Bull Terrier!

We are pleased to announce that UKC has designated the United American Pit Bull Terrier Organization as the Provisional National Breed Association for the American Pit Bull Terrier.

The Officers and Board of Directors of this organization have developed Bylaws, Code of Ethics, and a Social media Code of Conduct in order to create a solid foundation for this club that will provide healthy growth. This past year, the membership has developed to 46 members, which also includes 2 Clubs.

The Officers, Board of Directors and Membership are beyond excited to start this endeavor.

The mission of the UAPBTO is to protect the image and standard of the American Pit Bull Terrier through:
Educating communities about the breed and its characteristics
Advocating for the breed against Breed Specific Legistlation (BSL)
Mentoring of individuals new to the American Pit Bull Terrier on the Breed Standard as approved by the United Kennel Club, health, breeding practices, and responsible ownership.

If this is something you may be interested in joining, please email your interest to uapbto@gmail.com and someone will send you an application. All applications are reviewed by a membership committee for recommendations to the board. Membership approval is the sole discretion of the Board of Directors and can be denied for cause. There will be no discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, or national origin.
