BSL Awareness Demonstration a Success!

On January 8, 2019, UAPBTO and Cali Style APBT Club members (Sherri Flosi, Deb Gonzales, Mike McCauley, Rosalie Ball, Kim Pearson) joined efforts with Chako Pit Bull Rescue to provide an education rally at the California State Capitol to educate our legislatures on the characteristics of the pit bull and that we will not allow BSL in our state. California’s new governor is a supporter of PETA and has tried implementation of BSL in San Francisco when he was mayor there.

It was a rainy day but we had a break in rain for the time we had our permit to demonstrate. We brought our dogs so they could meet and greet and were very well received as you can see from the pictures. There were many legislatures and/or staff that were already pit bull owners or used to have one. No negative feedback was received. As a group, we all agreed it is better to be proactive than reactive and will do this again soon.

Pit Bull and Breed Discrimination Awareness Demonstration

Some UAPBTO members will be in action at this rally protest against BSL. I invite all California members to join us. I will have banners, signs and BSL materials available at this rally. Please share.

Come with or without a dog. All breeds are welcome, but discriminated breeds like Pit Bulls, Rottweilers, and German Shepherds are encouraged. If you bring a dog it MUST be on a leash (secure equipment that the dog cannot slip out of) and the dog MUST exhibit good behavior around other dogs, people, and squirrels (there are lots). This is crucial as there’s nothing more detrimental to such an event that a dog barking or growling at people or other dogs.

Dressing in layers is recommended. Signs against BSL are encouraged. To volunteer, contact dogs@chako.org.
